Crowns and bridges are fixed prosthetic devices which are bonded onto existing teeth or implants. Generally, a crown is recommended when a tooth is weak, fractured or discoloured, to improve its appearance and function.
ridges are commonly used to literally ‘bridge’ the gap between two teeth when one or more teeth are missing. Crowns and bridges can be made out of a variety of materials – the most common being ceramic or porcelain. Other materials include gold and metal alloys and acrylic. As there are many different options, each with their own specific advantages, a consultation with one of our dentists is recommended prior to treatment, to determine which material will best meet your specific needs.
How we work
Ceramic and porcelain crowns and bridges can be matched to the colour of your natural tooth enamel to ensure a natural-looking smile at the end of the process.
The procedure involved for fitting crowns and bridges is simple and painless and usually requires only two visits.
At your first visit, the tooth (or teeth) will be prepared for the bonding of the crown or bridge, and some impressions will be taken and sent to our technician who will custom-make the crown to fit perfectly in your mouth. You will be given a temporary crown or bridge while you are waiting for your prosthetic device to be completed. Two weeks later, you will return to have your crown or bridge cemented and adjusted.
These crowns and bridges last for years and greatly improve the strength and appearance of your teeth.
